On Monday, Leslie Alexander shocked the Rockets fanbase by putting the Rockets up for sale. This is a major move for the Rockets franchise as a change of ownership could lead to many changes in the Rockets' front office, but no need to worry as it is very unlikely that the Rockets will be expecting changes up front. The current Rockets' front office has been regarded as particularly successful recently mainly because of their very fruitful offseason, led by the Rockets' acquisition of star point guard Chris Paul. NBA pundits predict that the team will have an enormous price tag with the cost ranging from $1-2 billion for the ownership of the very successful Rockets.

To give some background information, Leslie Alexander bought the Rockets in 1993 for a price of $85 million. When Alexander bought the Rockets, they were led by Hakeem "The Dream Shake" Olajuwon. Prior to Leslie Alexander purchase of the Rockets, the Rockets were a team that, although having Olajuwon, could never secure a spot in the playoffs. Once Alexander bought the team, something clicked and the Rockets started to have a plethora of successful seasons. For example, the Rockets won two NBA Championships in two consecutive years as the team was bought by Leslie Alexander. Alexander, as owner of the Rockets, shaped the franchise and made countless amounts of good decisions that steered the franchise to success. Transactions such as acquiring James Harden and Chris Paul just scratch the iceberg of the important trades that have built the foundation for the current Rockets roster.

As I stated earlier, if owners of a particular team change, they have the authority to fire whomever they like. But it is likely that no change will occur if owners change because the Rockets have been very successful and are comfortable with their current front office staff. The Rockets' General Manager and President have shown their competence ad expertise in their field by acquiring players and hiring coaches that have elevated the Rockets to a great and elite level.

Debate has also aroused on whether the Rockets will move to another city with a change of ownership. The answer is palpable and simple. No! The Rockets will not move to another city. The franchise is already receiving lavish funds from the City of Houston, a major factor that allows them to be as successful as they are, and Houston is also home to many die-hard fans that support the Rockets every step they take. In my opinion, there is no city as supportive and encouraging as Houston.

Ultimately, despite the change of name for the Rockets owner, there are no major changes to anticipate from the sale of the Rockets. Expect to see the same order of business, just with a different person in authority. Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude towards Leslie Alexander for his great dedication towards the improvement of the Rockets.
